Question: Did Denmark own Hamburg?

Hamburg was controlled by Denmark. The Danish governor united the new and the old parts of Hamburg under one law, town hall and court. A series of Danish defeats culminating in the Battle of Bornhöved on 22 July 1227 cemented the loss of Denmarks northern German territories and liberated Hamburg also.

Do Danes still exist?

The people you meet today in Denmark are the descendants of the people who didnt want to go anywhere. The current Danes are peaceful people. But there are still some things they have in common with the Vikings, and not just the way they scream bloody murder at you in the bicycle lanes.
